Holy Zucchini Bat Boy!
Every year I tease about entering my zucchini in the state or county fair, this is why.... I know the pic is blurry but that zucchini is almost the same height as Conner and it definitely out weighs him by a pound or two. I coerced Toni (our fabulous sitter) to pose with it for this pic.
I think Connor was scared of the thing. He was running away from it.
I'm going to keep it by my bedside for a weapon.
Another great summer concert at Snowbird - Steve Poltz
Sunday we went to Snowbird to see Steve Poltz (he's the guy your listening to right now he wrote the Jewel song "you were meant for me"). It was another great show. When he was warming up Mikey (in true Mikey fashion) offered him a beer. After the warm up, Steve (like I know him personally) came over to our table and chatted with us for a while. And after all of that, this is one of the only photo's we took. We didn't ask him for a group pic or an autograph or anything. Geez... what were we thinking?
99.9% of the time I take a terrible picture, so when this one came back decent (not great, but decent) I was pleased. Then you pan down to Connor with his finger in his nose! No he did not! Just my luck :)
Too cute. Honestly, he is just too cute to be ours!

Note from Mikey:If you really want to here some good stuff go buy some Rugburns CDs (Steve's former band) website is www.poltz.com

Connor was starting to look a little like Jack Nickolson in The Shining, with his crazy, wispy hair so we decided it was time for a cut. Mike broke out the clippers and off it went.
Looks like Mikey could use a trim too

What a handsome boy! Although I do have to admit that if you look close there are still little wisp's of long hair sticking up here and there. We have an appointment with Brownie (the best hairdresser this side of the Mississippi - and a great friend) to do the clean up. All in all Mikey did a great job it's pretty tricky business to "shave" a one year olds head.
Fancy new suit
We're going to Lake Powell next month and I've been worried sick about Conner toddling around on a houseboat and toddling right into the drink. So I found this spiffy floaty suit (in addition to the life jacket, SPF 50 swim gear, hats and water socks). I bought the smallest size that they had. It arrived a few days ago, I tried it on Connor and this is what happened......

Help! I've fallen and can't get up! Poor kid. It's so big it throws off his balance. He might be worse off with this thing on. Mikey thinks I worry to much and I should just relax. "Everything will be just fine" he says, but I don't know.... I'm thinking baby leash!

Now we're cruisin!
Well it's been one month today since Connor took his first series of steps. So I thought I'd take a little action shot of his mad motor skills. He's really cruisin all over now. Most of the time he has something in his hands as he cruises along (sippy cup, apples from the yard, a magazine, Elmo, or whatever!) . He's really getting the hang of it. I'm hoping that when I start chasing him all over the place I can consider that my workout routine!

Kudos and FU to Mikey
Now don't get all excited, Mikey is ok with the title. Let me just tell you why I love and hate Mikey all at the same time for the same reason. For the last 4-5 years Jamie and I have been running the Midvale city 5k (albeit some years better than others). Last year we all participated . Jamie and I both placed in our age group which is not too impressive because Mike and Dave walked it and came in 4th in their age group. This year Dave's been exercising and starting to run a bit (see how slim, trim and panther like he is), and Jamie and I well..... not so much but still figured we could walk run and do ok. So a few days before the race Mikey announces that he might try to run the whole thing. Well, I just happened to mention to him that he probably couldn't run the whole thing because it's a long way. So fast forward to race day... guess who won? Yep, Mikey! Rat Bastard! He not only beat everyone of us, he almost beat my best time in a 5k ever! His time was 30:14! And he was pushing Connor the entire time!

Guess who got the medal? Nope, not Mikey, me!! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!! I got the silver medal in my age group. Mikey placed 4th in his. Too bad Mikey, better luck next year! And watch out cause it's on now. I'm gonna kick your ass (now if I could just lift my leg high enough to do it)! Just kidding babe... you know I love ya and I'm proud of you. Now, I bet you can't clean the garage and finish the bathroom :0 )
Note from Mikey, I will have to add that my body was VERY angry at me the next day. I'm going to try an old remedy of 4 ibuprofen and 10 beers to see if it will help with the hurt.
Crash em' up!
Friday night we went to the demolition derby at the county fair. We're starting to make this a family tradition. It's great fun to watch the cars slam into one another then yell and cheer like crazy people. And you can do all of this while drinking beer, how much better can it be? This is our group of crazy peeps - Clayton, Carson, Jamie, Dave, Me, Connor, Danna, Malcolm, and Kris.

Of course, before the derby, Mike had to take Conner on some of his first carnie rides.
The ride attendant (that's politically correct for carnie rat) was super nice and let Mike go down each slide with Connor. The blue one was the fastest!
Conner & Mikey riding the chicken -

We also did the petting zoo, watched the pigs race and ate a Navajo taco all of the must dos at the fair.

Supersuckers
How about the music? I'm so proud of myself I put the player on our blog all by myself. I was about to call my IT guy to do it, but after a little pep talk from Amy I gave it a go and voila'! So in the process of selecting tunes, Mikey suggests Supersuckers (surprise surprise). Anyone who knows (and loves) Mikey, knows he's a Supersuckers fan. So this is a quick Supersuckers history as it relates to our family in the last 2 years.
Although this is not technically the Supersuckers, it's my blog and I love this shot so I'm including it. This is Mikey with Jordan Shapiro, and Eddie Spaghetti at Snowbirds summer concert series in 2006.
Mike won a contest for a free guitar, guitar lesson with Jordan Shapiro, and tickets to the Supersuckers concert on New Years Eve 2006. Mikey missed his calling as a rock star!
Me, Andy and Michelle Wittusen. This is Connor's first concert, I was about 3 months pregnant at the time. To be honest, this is the end of the night and I'm not too happy at this point. I wanted to go to our room and sleep and Mikey wanted to have the band members sign his new guitar. Needless to say, he won and his guitar now sports all signatures of the Supersuckers.
And finally my favorite pic. This is Connor's first Supersuckers concert (post utero). Great show, we went with our friends the Wittusens and had a blast. Now, back to the selection of tunes..... As I browsed the selection of Supersucker songs I just couldn't stop myself from adding a bunch. So stick around for a song or two and enjoy! I guess I'm more of a fan than I let off to be --- just don't tell Mikey that!
P.S. - Just to clarify, we've been to a lot more Supersuckers concerts in the last few years - this is just a snapshot.
